Corvair Carbutetor butterfly shaft re-building....
. When the carburetor butterfly shaft wears, the housing also wears, especially on the side that drives the accelerator pump.
. Replacement shafts are available but the wear in the carburetor housing is still there.
. Our #C-1 Butterfly shaft re-build restores both parts to 'like- new' condition and fit.
. Once the original butterfly disc is removed, the original shaft is straightened, surface cleaned, and chemically primered.
, Next, the housing is line reamed in the metal lathe to an oversize hole which cleans the worn metal leaving a true bearing surface.
. I then bond on pre-made nickel plated thin wall brass sleeves to the origional shaft using special high temperature loctite adhesive.
. I then quickly assemble into the housing with new brass butterfly screws and position everything before the pieces bond together in place.
. Lastly, I deform the ends of the new butterfly brass screws like the factory did to ensure they never come out.
. Over the years, I have done about 600 carburetors.
. I do your cores and return them to you. I do these between major batches of parts rebuilding so if quick turnaround is important, please call so we can co-ordinate a time for you to send your parts so I can get right to them for you.
. I think this method is probably the best solution as the butterfly shaft is the original size inside the carburetor bore (so there is no extra restriction to air flow), but slightly larger in the housing bearing area which should result in slightly better support and longer wear.
. Price is $ 40.00 each with discounts by the pairs of carburetors sent.
